Phil
As a child I was a quiet, very innocent little boy - when my parents divorced, I decided at 10 years old that I wanted to live with my dad and my brother, a decision that broke my mum’s heart. I would spend the next 8 years living in a male only household.
My older brother was the cool kid - popular, funny, good at sport, and liked by everyone - I spent much of my youth in his shadow. As I reached teenage years, I toughened up - I became what was considered to be more ‘manly’. I built a more maculine mask around my more delicate personality.
This continued into my 20’s, and even my early 30’s - I became very alpha, competitive, and at times I could be quite mean and manipulative, particularly in my relationships. Being honest, this mask served me in many ways - I was able to succeed in cutthroat sales environments, build strong social groups with other men, and convince women that I was a suitable partner for them.
It was only when I started my coaching journey that I realised that many of my behaviours were addictive, and no longer served me. Although I didn’t have a substance addiction - I was addicted to ‘people pleasing’ - to behaving in ways that pleased others, but went against my values. I was addicted to being validated by others.
When Daniel approached me in 2020 about the opportunity at Recoverlution - it all clicked. I saw how much recovery and coaching behaviour change had in common. Many of the tools I used in my coaching practice aligned hugely to the journey of recovery.
All of our behaviours can be traced back to our beliefs about ourselves and others - when we can learn to investigate the true nature of those beliefs and question their validity, we can change our perspectives. With a new lens through which to view the world, we can see new solutions to our problems, we can change our relationship to our thoughts - we can change our behaviour.
I am responsible for managing the wellness hub on the Recoverlution platform - I love curating the best wellness practices available and bringing them together on one platform. Every tool you see on the site is something I have used, and for my clients.
We are creating a hub of practices to support you in your journey, wherever you are.
